About DumpsterSidekick
What is DumpsterSidekick?
DumpsterSidekick is an independent directory of dumpster rental companies in the United States. We list real local haulers — their contact information, service areas, and the sizes they offer — so you can find and contact them directly. We are not a hauler ourselves, and we do not own any dumpsters.
Is DumpsterSidekick a broker?
No. Brokers buy your information and resell it without telling you which company will actually deliver your dumpster. We list real haulers with their real contact details, and we tell you exactly what happens when you submit a quote request: your request goes to a small group of haulers in your area (typically three to five), each of whom may contact you directly. You decide who to work with.
How does DumpsterSidekick make money?
Four ways, all disclosed: featured listings (haulers pay to rank higher in their service area), premium hauler profiles, lead sales (when you submit a quote request, we share it with three to five haulers in your area for a flat fee), and affiliate partnerships with certain national companies. See our About page for the full breakdown.
Do I have to use the quote form?
No. You can browse our directory and contact any hauler directly using their phone number or email. The directory itself is free to use and always will be. The quote form is just a convenience for people who want to compare a few haulers at once without filling out separate forms on multiple websites.
Pricing and quotes
How much does a dumpster rental cost?
For most projects, a standard 7-day rental costs between $250 and $850 depending on size, location, and weight allowance. A 10-yard dumpster typically runs $250 to $400, a 20-yard runs $350 to $550, and a 40-yard can hit $850 in major metros. Local landfill costs and demand drive most of the price variation. See our complete pricing breakdown at The Real Cost of a Dumpster Rental.
Why are quotes from different haulers so different?
Quotes vary because each hauler bundles different things into their base price. One company’s $279 quote might include a 1-ton weight allowance and charge $95 per ton over; another company’s $349 quote might include 3 tons and charge $60 per ton over. The lower-priced quote is often the more expensive option once weight is factored in. Always compare quotes line-by-line before booking.
What’s a fair weight overage fee?
Reasonable overage rates run $40 to $100 per ton over your included allowance. Anything over $150 per ton is on the high end and worth questioning. Always confirm the overage rate in writing before booking.
Are delivery and pickup included in the price?
With most reputable haulers, yes — flat-rate quotes include delivery, the rental period, pickup, and disposal of a set weight allowance. Always confirm this in writing before booking. Some companies advertise low base prices that exclude delivery and pickup, then add those fees on the final invoice.
Sizing and project planning
What size dumpster do I need?
It depends on your project. A bathroom remodel typically needs a 10 or 15-yard. A kitchen remodel needs a 20-yard. A whole-home cleanout needs a 30-yard. A roof replacement varies by square footage and shingle type. For a complete sizing breakdown by project type, see our Dumpster Size Guide.
What if I order the wrong size?
If you order too small, you’ll need to either pay for a second rental or have the first one swapped out — both options cost more than ordering the right size in the first place. If you order too large, you’ve paid for capacity you didn’t use. When in doubt, size up by one — a 20-yard for a project you think needs a 15-yard, for example. The price difference is usually small, and the headache savings are large.
How long does a typical rental last?
Most rental periods run 7 to 14 days. After the included period, expect to pay $5 to $15 per extra day. If you know your project will run longer than the standard period, ask for a flat extension rate up front rather than paying daily — you can often negotiate a better price.
Permits, placement, and prohibited items
Do I need a permit for a dumpster?
If the dumpster will sit on a public street, sidewalk, or other public right-of-way, almost every city requires a permit — typically $25 to $200 depending on the city. If the dumpster will sit on your private driveway or yard, most cities don’t require a permit (Houston is a notable exception for commercial property). For specific rules in your area, see our Dumpster Permit Rules Database.
Can I put anything in a dumpster?
No. Most dumpsters cannot accept hazardous materials (paint, solvents, motor oil, batteries, chemicals), refrigerants (refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners that haven’t been certified-evacuated), tires, mattresses (in some states), and electronics (in some states). Throwing prohibited items in your dumpster typically triggers a per-item disposal fee of $25 to $75, and in some cases the hauler will refuse to pick up the dumpster until you remove them. For a complete list, see our Prohibited Items guides.
Will a dumpster damage my driveway?
A loaded dumpster weighs several tons and sits on hard metal rails, so yes — driveway damage is possible, especially on asphalt in hot weather. The standard prevention is laying down two-by-four planks of plywood under the rails before the dumpster is set down. Most reputable haulers will do this if you ask, or supply the wood themselves. Always confirm what protection (if any) the hauler provides before delivery.
The booking process
How far in advance should I book?
For standard projects in most markets, 3 to 7 days of lead time is plenty. For peak season (spring and early summer) or for tight project windows, book at least a week ahead. Same-day delivery is available in many markets but typically costs more.
What information do haulers need from me?
To give you an accurate quote, a hauler typically needs: the delivery address (especially the ZIP code), the type of project (renovation, cleanout, roofing, etc.), the size of dumpster you think you need, your target delivery date, and how long you plan to keep it. The more specific you are, the more accurate the quote.
What happens after I submit a quote request?
Your request goes to three to five qualified haulers in your area. Each hauler may contact you directly — by phone, text, or email — usually within a few hours during business days. You compare the quotes, ask questions, and pick the hauler you want to work with. You are under no obligation to book with any of them.
Can I cancel a rental?
Cancellation policies vary by hauler. Most allow free cancellation up until 24 hours before delivery. Cancellations within 24 hours of delivery typically forfeit a deposit ($25 to $100 in most cases). Always confirm the cancellation policy in writing before booking.
Common problems and disputes
The hauler quoted me one price and billed me a different price. What do I do?
First, request an itemized invoice and compare it line-by-line against your written quote. The most common cause of a price gap is weight overage — if you went over your included tonnage, you’ll be charged the per-ton overage rate. If the gap is unexplained or the hauler didn’t disclose a fee up front, push back politely and ask for the relevant line item to be removed or reduced. If the hauler won’t budge, your local Better Business Bureau and your state attorney general’s consumer protection office are the right next steps.
The hauler showed up late, damaged my driveway, or didn’t pick up on time. What do I do?
Contact the hauler directly first — most issues get resolved at that level. DumpsterSidekick is a directory, not a service company, so we cannot mediate disputes between you and the hauler. If the hauler is unresponsive or hostile, the BBB and state consumer protection offices are your next stop. Always document issues with photos and timestamps from the start.
I think a hauler in your directory is shady. Can you remove them?
If you have a specific complaint backed by documentation (false advertising, hidden fees, fraudulent practices), email us at corrections@dumpstersidekick.com with the details. We investigate every complaint and will remove haulers who repeatedly fail to meet basic standards. We do not remove haulers based on isolated bad reviews — every business has unhappy customers occasionally — but a pattern of complaints will trigger a review.
Privacy and your information
What does DumpsterSidekick do with my information?
If you only browse the directory, we collect minimal analytics data — page views, geographic region, the search terms you use. If you submit a quote request, your contact information is shared with three to five haulers in your area so they can contact you directly. We never share your information beyond that group, we do not sell it to outside marketers, and we do not auction it to the highest bidder. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I opt out of having my information shared with haulers?
Don’t use the quote request form. Browse the directory listings instead and contact a single hauler directly using the phone number or email on their listing. That option is always available and always free.
How do I delete my information from your records?
Email us at support@dumpstersidekick.com with the subject line “Delete my data” and the email address or phone number you used. We will delete what we have within 30 days and confirm via email. See our Privacy Policy for the full process.
